City celebrates 25 consecutive years of Tree City USA recognition
Canal Winchester was recently named a 2018 Tree City USA Community by the Arbor Day Foundation. The designation honors the city’s commitment to effective urban forest management. Canal Winchester has been recognized as a Tree City USA community for 26 consecutive years.
Each Tree City USA community receives recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
According to the Arbor Day Foundation, trees provide many benefits to a community when properly planted and maintained. In addition to improving neighborhood aesthetics, trees generally increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, reduce air pollution, and provide an excellent natural habitat for wildlife.
