New Land, new plans for growing community
The City of Canal Winchester is pleased to announce the recent purchase of approximately 90 acres of rural land to be dedicated for use as future park-land. The property, formerly owned by Dr. Kathleen McGill, is located in Franklin County at 6725 Lithopolis-Winchester Rd.
As early as 2008, Mayor Mike Ebert envisioned the purchase of the McGill property as an opportunity for development of a multi-use city park. “Since the property first went on the market, Dr. McGill and I were in contact often,” said Mayor Mike Ebert. “It is a remarkable piece of property. I never gave up on the idea or the hope of the city purchasing it as a place for our residents to enjoy.”
Mayor Ebert adds, “The timing could not have been better for the purchase, as a volunteer Parks Committee is in the process of evaluating all of our parks for future use and amenities.” The new property will be included in a parks master plan currently in development. The plan, which will utilize resident input acquired via September’s public meetings and online surveys, will serve as an outline for Canal Winchester park development over the coming years.
