Organizers of the 97th Annual Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival are pleased to announce that local resident Bill Yaple will be honored as Parade Grand Marshal for the 2017 Canal Winchester Labor Day Parade. The parade, themed “Remember When”, is scheduled to begin in downtown Canal Winchester on Monday, September 4th at 1:00 p.m.
“Each year, our Labor Day Committee nominates and votes for deserving candidates to be the Parade Grand Marshal. This year, the final choice was local resident Bill Yaple. The Canal Winchester Labor Day committee recognizes him for his many years of dedication to Canal Winchester and our surrounding communities,” said Mayor Michael Ebert. “Among Bill’s many contributions to our community, he has regularly shared tractors, farm equipment, and his time at local events throughout the years, including Canal Winchester’s Christmas in the Village Celebration every December. Bill also donated his time and effort to help Canal Winchester Historical Society renovate and prepare their new National Barber Museum. We’re pleased to honor Bill as this year’s Labor Day Parade Grand Marshal.”
Before retiring in 2014, Mr. Yaple served as the Violet Township Director of Operations. He has also been an active member of the Fairfield Medical Center Board of Directors, the Pickerington Senior Center Board of Directors, the Fairfield County Regional Planning Commission, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, and the Ohio Township Association.
Labor Day Festival activities kick off on Saturday, September 2nd and continue through Monday, September 4th. In addition to the Labor Day Parade, festival attractions will include a WWII Memorial Wall, live entertainment, a car show, ice cream social, midway rides, and more!
