On June 10, Canal Winchester and Groveport residents will join together at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Canal Winchester and Groveport at Canal Winchester High School, located at 300 Washington Street, to raise funds and awareness in an effort to help create a world without cancer. The event starts at 4:00 p.m.

Relay For Life is a community celebration where individuals and teams participate in activities and walk or run around a local track “relay” style to fight cancer. Funds raised through the event support cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, we celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. During Relay For Life events, members of each team take turns walking or running around the track or path. Teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.

Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Society has invested more than $4.5 billion in research since 1946, and have funded more than 20,000 scientists at more than 1,000 institutions nationwide.

The American Cancer Society and Relay For Life of Canal Winchester and Groveport extend a special invitation to those inspiring individuals in the Canal Winchester and Groveport area who have won the fight against cancer to attend a special “Survivors Dinner” following the opening ceremonies and survivors lap.  The Survivors Dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will celebrate survivors’ triumph over cancer.

National Relay For Life events honor cancer survivors and pay tribute to those who lost their battle. It’s an opportunity for survivors, caregivers, and others to unite and join in the American Cancer Society’s goal to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
