Boards & Commissions
The City of Canal Winchester appoints and relies on specialized boards to assist on items requiring action or recommendations. This allows proactive community members with unique talents to pull together for a collective good. We have outlined some of the City's Boards and Commissions below and encourage you to get involved.
Anyone interested in applying to serve on any of these organizations may submit a Board & Commission Application form online or in person to 45 E. Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, OH 43110. All applications qualifying for consideration will remain on file for two years.

The Canal Winchester Industry and Commerce Corporation (CWICC) is a public private partnership that has been designated by the City as agent for the City’s industrial, commercial, distribution and research development. They have created an Economic Development Plan for the City’s industrial, commercial, distribution and research development in order to create jobs and employment opportunities and improve the economic welfare of the community. The Canal Winchester Landmarks Commission shall be to consider and take action on applications for Certificates of Appropriateness for properties within the Historic District and Preservation District, in conformance with the provisions of the Old Town Overlay District, and the Canal Winchester Old Town Guidelines. They shall also be responsible for:
- Cause or assist in conducting continuing survey(s) of cultural resources within the Municipality, according to guidelines established by the Ohio Historical Preservation Office.
- Make recommendations for designation of local landmarks, Historic Districts, and the Preservation District.
- Advise officials and municipal departments regarding protection of local cultural resources.
- Work toward the continuing education of citizens regarding historic preservation issues and concerns.

The Personnel Board of Review was formed in 2011 pursuant to our Charter to establish procedures whereby appointments and promotions are made according to merit and fitness; to establish methods for the courses and procedures for the dismissal, suspension and other disciplinary action against employees in the classified service; provide an equal opportunity to all citizens to compete for employment on the basis of demonstrated merit and fitness, ascertained to the extent practicable by competitive examination; and to provide a forum to hear appeals from administrative determinations made by the Code of Personnel Practices.

The Canal Winchester Planning and Zoning Commission shall have the responsibility to initiate amendments to the provisions of the zoning code and official zoning map and to review all proposed amendments of this zoning code and zoning map and to forward recommendations to Council.
They also review all proposed development plans, and act upon applications for variances and conditional use permits in accordance with the zoning code. They administer the provisions of Canal Winchester’s Subdivision Regulations in consideration of major subdivisions and make recommendations on platting to Council.
The Planning Commission is also charged with preparing and making recommendations on a Comprehensive Plan for the city to include the layout of streets, bridges, utilities, and public lands.

The Street Tree Advisory Board was created by the city via Ordinance 38-92 on April 20, 1992. The Board consists of five (5) members who are citizens of the City of Canal Winchester, to be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council of the City of Canal Winchester, Ohio.
It is the mission and charge of the Street Tree Advisory Board, to serve as an advisory panel of interested citizens to preserve, protect, enhance, and perpetuate our trees, forests and plants. They are committed to oversight and review of futuristic policies to further the goals of the advisory panel.
The preservation and enhancement of our trees, forests, and foliage is of paramount importance to our community. Environmental, aesthetic, and cultural factors dictate that positive and ongoing policies and programs be sustained and formulated to ensure that our community remains environmentally stable, pleasant and attractive.
