Property Taxes

Property taxes are billed and collected by the county auditor. The City of Canal Winchester is located within Franklin and Fairfield counties. Please contact the appropriate county auditor with any questions related to property tax rates, bills, or collection.

City Income Taxes

The City of Canal Winchester has a 2% income tax rate. This rate applies to individuals who work in the city as well as individuals who live in the city and work outside the city.

The City of Canal Winchester income tax is collected by the Regional Income Tax Agency (R.I.T.A.).  Information regarding R.I.T.A. can be found on their website at www.RITAOhio.com.

Mandatory Filing Requirement

All residents and tax payers are required to file an annual tax return with R.I.T.A. even if no tax is due. Online filing and printable forms are available on the R.I.T.A. website.

Interest Rate Notice for Tax Year 2022

The interest rate on unpaid taxes for tax year beginning January 1, 2022 will be 5% per annum.  Prior years' rates can be found on the R.I.T.A. website.

Ohio Revised Code Section 718.27 requires municipalities set the interest rate for delinquent unpaid tax liabilities at the federal short-term rate (rounded to the nearest whole number percent) plus 5 percent (5%). Interest shall be imposed per annum on all unpaid income tax, unpaid estimated income tax, and unpaid income tax withholding tax. The interest rate shall apply to the calendar year following the July of the year in which the federal short-term rate is determined. The interest rate must be posted by October 31st of each year.

The interest rate on unpaid taxes for tax years prior to 2016 will remain 18% per annum.

School District Income Taxes

There are two school districts located within the City of Canal Winchester.

Canal Winchester Local School District (2502) – 0.75%

Bloom-Carroll Local School District (2303) – 1.25%
